A Useful Update On the Status Of The PCEHR

The Week in Brief - With AIIA CEO Suzanne Campbell

 25th October, 2013
Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) – this week a status update has been provided to the PCEHR Independent Advisory Council (IAC) confirming:
  • 3,500 new consumer registrations per day, with over 1 million people now registered
  • 5,582 healthcare provider organisations and 8,016 individual healthcare providers are now registered
  • 9,300 shared health summaries and over 2,000 discharge summaries are now recorded
  • 27,500 consumer entered health summaries, approximately 8,600 consumer entered notes and approximately 3,900 advance care directive custodian notices are now held

For Information - It is important to note that 16 months after go live we have only 0.04% of the population  with a record for a cost of roughly $100 each. Hardly a raving or cheap success just yet.
The really telling statistic is that only 27,000 of the 1 million who have registered have actually added their own summary. The fact is the system is a hardly used white elephant.

To quote yourself, " the system is a hardly used white elephant." thanks in part to the continual negative comments from yourself and other commentators.

1 million registered consumers is a major milestone thanks to the efforts of Medicare Locals among others.

Yes, the system needs more clinical input and modification. However using it in its current form is not rocket science and blogs such as yours should be encouraging clinicians to contribute their expertise not to mention creating more shared health & event summaries.

Sure 1 million registered users but only 27,000 are actual users.

If the PCEHR was any good that would hardly the outcome.

A money wasting joke is my view. The Medicare Locals were selling something the public does not seem to want to use.

So what are you and the evangelists going to do to fix it?

It is no good as it is.

"1 million registered consumers is a major milestone thanks to the efforts of Medicare Locals among others."

So what? It wouldn't matter if there were 22 million registered consumers! What value does this benign fact actually demonstrate and bring?

Classic example of mistaking activity for action to say the least.

Unless this long acknowledged ehealth White Elephant creates any value and substantially improves the efficiency and effectiveness of Australia's Healthcare system, with Patient Safety and successful beneficial health outcomes at its core, it will be and remain a failure and a colossal waste of taxpayers' funds!

An audit would also illuminate how much more waste the cadre of taxpayer funded clipboard holders railroading unsuspecting and uninformed registrants in various Governmental offices and hospital waiting rooms to sign on the dotted line and fail to follow-up in any meaningful way to benefit from their newly acquired PCEHR shell of a record.

This BLOG and its readers have every right and justification to spell out the PCEHR's failings and slow-motion train-wreck failure as a counterpoint and balance to the taxpayer funded deluded self-serving bureaucratic party line of what a resounding success this ehealth monstrosity is!

To perform as an apologist for the PCEHR and on what reasonable grounds at present just beggars belief...

"To quote yourself, " the system is a hardly used white elephant." thanks in part to the continual negative comments from yourself and other commentators."

The PCEHR and its proponents have done a bang-up job in ensuring its failure and status as an ehealth White Elephant all on their own, with fully taxpayer funded mouthpiece bloggers (now retired??) cheering along all the way!

Saul Kamen flatters this BLOG and its readers if he thinks it has had any contribution to the PCEHR's inevitable failure and forthcoming demise...
